History of Art

Fall

Winter

Spring

THIS FALL, we invite you to join us to study the great heritage of Western art from the Greeks to the present. Our comprehensive class offers students the opportunity to view, experience, and evaluate great works of art created over the past 5,000 years. Fall quarter, we begin with the foundational art of the Greeks and its Roman interpretations. Winter quarter, we study the art of the Middle Ages and enjoy the great age of the Renaissance, of Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael. Spring quarter, we begin with the 17th century— the age of the Enlightenment, of Galileo and Shakespeare, of Caravaggio and Rembrandt — and move forward to the 19th century, with the profound changes in art wrought by the the Impressionists — and finally to our own era.
