Visiting Lisbon

As you can see above, Lisbon is a city of hills above a bay. It is very much like San Francisco. And therefore the first choice is to decide where you want to stay during your visit. In my opinion, the most charming part of the city is Barrio Alto which is an old quarter that is up on top of one of the hills. It is totally unchanged by modern growth. There are no grand boulevards, no high rise hotels. So it is like a perfect preserved old Lisbon. The only negative is that you have to climb the hill when you come home. Now you dont really have to climb the hill because there is a tram that is easy to use and of course there are also taxis. So I say choose Barrio Alto and you will see that we have several hotels in the quarter that are wonderful and small and inexpensive. And also delightful restaurants and bars in the neighborhood.
