Visiting Canterbury

One thing to realize about Canterbury is that it is a relatively small town with a massive onslaught of tourist groups in high season. If you visit in some seasons that are not the high summer tourist season it will seem to be lovely. But at the peak of the tourist crush you will find the place simply overrun with crowds. The way to get around this issue is to stay overnight at the Canterbury Cathedral Lodge which is inside the Cathedral grounds and therefore you can get up early in the morning before any tourists arrive, and walk the grounds and maybe attend an early service and feel the magic of this very special place. Let me recommend two things: stay overnight and stay at the Canterbury Cathedral Lodge if you can get in. Waking up inside the Cathedral grounds is the best of all possible beginnings of your day. Go over to the Cathedral early.
